Knowing the criteria
Video 1 - Message in a bottle
For this video I gave a 33 out of 40, the music video had a strong narrative with a clear idea of what was happening and going to happen. There was a consistently good framing of shots to effectively emphasise each situation whether it was the emphasis on the singer's lyrics and so framing onto him, or the drama of the music video itself.
However, there were some issues. Some shots were overly shaky that didn't seem to be intentionally handheld and so could've been just a result of laziness, not using a tripod. There were also one or two errors made in terms of lip-syncing. Despite this not frequently occurring it can break the audience away from the immersion of the video if there is a blatantly noticeable error.
The video actually received a 38 out of 40, which I thought was a bit too generous, however there is consistency in the music video in both filming and post-production to show a sophisticated project, despite there only being a couple of errors.
Video 2 - The Past Six Years
For the next video I decided to give this 27 out of 40 as I felt that the video was over-edited in some points with too heavy colour correction and not a particularly wide range of shots. On a more positive side the shots were of a good quality and effective in their use along with effective transitions from each shot, I just felt that there wasn't enough variety to captivate the audience and some shots were ruined by bad post-production.
This video ended up getting 28 out of 40 which I would also agree to be fair. It got this because of the mood of the video being able to match accurately with the genre and meet it at a good pace. On the technical side we can see it thrive with good framing and steady shots but editing may be too simplistic and it lacks in variety.
