Genres and sub-genres
Throughout the time of looking at a variety of music videos within genres like indie, alternative, dance, house (and forever on in that general idea) I had decided that these may be a useful 'foothold' to start off from and take the music video down these lines. Songs like 'Beck - Devil's Haircut' has a very unorthodox style to it with frozen clips and slow zooms.
This can combine with the long and mid shots that are used frequently to surround Beck within New York City and make him seem less important yet whenever the song changes the video freezes and zooms into his face to repeat the point that he made the song and he is actually the real focus. During the freezes and zooming there also seems to be a reel burn on the clip to imitate the video being filmed with an old camera using actual rolls of film that could make the video dirty after processing and cause it to flicker. This sort of style I find really interesting and have a knack that the director has the creativity to show a contrast of everything possible - a cowboy in a city, holding a jukebox, singing alternative rock, with a 90's movie style thrown on it.
Additionally I have seen other videos yet with a strong idea style such as 'Blur - Boys and Girls' with frequent close ups of Damon Albarn to intrude upon the viewer and show that he is the attention of the song with other clips pushed more to the back in a green screen fashion showing a 90s Benidorm-esque holiday.
This is a much more creative idea than what I would typically expect to come from a rock band with them giving the band a lot more attention than them just sat playing music - there is frequent jumping around from Damon to entertain the audience rather than leaving the work down to actors and the director with their song 'dubbed' over the top. Additionally there are funny scenes with the mise-en-scene set with clothing of typical British people when they go away on what they believe to be their luxury holiday.
